Hello! I’m Rahul Mandal. Thanks for visiting my website. I was the winner of The Great British Bake Off 2018 and The New Year Bake Off in 2021. By day I work as a Research Scientist. I live in Rotherham with my wife Shreya and our baby daughter Deveshi.
 
I grew up in Kolkata and my baking journey began after I moved to the UK when I was 23. It was incredibly exciting to discover a whole new world of food and flavours and this led to my East-meets-West approach to developing new recipe ideas. As a scientist, I’m fascinated that baking is a combination of physics, engineering and chemistry but I always try to ensure that my creations are beautiful, full of flavour and structurally elegant too.
 
I was proud to publish my first book ‘Showstopping Cakes: Mastering the Art & Science of Baking’ in 2022 – you can out more about it here. I am a regular contributor to The Times’ food magazine.
